It comprises over 3600 documents, including official letters written in Chinese, the Portuguese translated copies of the letters and other miscellaneous documents. The records are reflections on the conditions of the society, the people's lives, urban development, trade and commerce, etc. of Macao during the Qing Dynasty. A painter was born in London, England. In 1792, he enrolled in the Royal Academy Schools, where he showed the beginnings of his talent as an artist.
