Cancer cells undergoing autophagy induced by starvation Caveolin-1 (CAV1) is an important tumour suppressor in breast cancer. Its deficiency and mutation can affect the autophagy and lysosome, thus making breast cancer cells more susceptible to autophagy/lysosome inhibitors. Faculty of Health Sciences Professor Shen Hanming suggests that CAV1’s deficiency and mutation can be used as a biomarker in the selection of breast cancer patients for using autophagy/lysosome inhibitors in cancer therapy. Chinese & English Text / Debby Seng ‧ Photo / Editorial Board with some provided by the interviewee
