1491年歐氏《幾何原本》搖籃本 THE 1491 INCUNABULUM OF EUCLID’S ELEMENTS 澳大圖書館收藏的這本《幾何原本》(Preclarissimus liber elementorum Euclidis perspicacissimi: in artem geometrie incipit quam foelicissime)是 參考了早期拉丁文譯本及新譯了多種阿拉伯資料修訂出來的版本。該版本於 1491年在意大利維琴察由Leonardus de Basilea and Gulielmus de Papia公 司再印刷出版。與首版相比,刪除了獻詞,並將首頁邊框改為丘比特及動植 物圖案,字體則從哥特體改為更易讀的羅馬字體。此珍本獲得古籍專家傑瑞 米·諾爾曼的高度評價,全球僅84家圖書館收藏。 中葡院士分享《幾何原本》搖籃本入藏澳大的價值和意義 2024年10月28日,澳門大學在科研大樓(N21)舉辦 了一場題為《數學經典與知識傅播:幾何原本搖籃本的 價值和意義》的分享會。馬許願副校長首先介紹了 1491年版《幾何原本》入藏澳大圖書館並成為館藏古 籍中最珍貴的藏品之一的經過。隨後,中國科學院院 士、廣州南方學院校長湯濤教授和葡萄牙里斯本科學 院院士、里斯本大學教授Prof. José Francisco Rodrigues分別就本書的意義、在中國的傳播歷史,以 及搖籃本的歷史背景和1491年版與1482年版的區別進 行了講解和分享。 The edition of Euclid’s Elements (full title: Preclarissimus liber elementorum Euclidis perspicacissimi: in artem geometrie incipit quam foelicissime) acquired by the UM Library is a revised version based on earlier Latin translations and new translations of various Arabic sources. Reprinted in Vicenza, Italy, by Leonardus de Basilea and Gulielmus de Papia, this edition omits the dedication to the Doge of Venice found in the first edition. The decorative border on the first page was changed from Arabic motifs to Cupid, plants, and animals, and the typeface was changed from Gothic to more legible Roman type. Rare book expert Jeremy Norman highly appraised this acquisition, and only 84 libraries worldwide hold this 1491 edition. CHINESE AND PORTUGUESE ACADEMICIANS SHARED THE VALUE AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE INCUNABULUM OF EUCLID’S ELEMENTS ACQUIRED BY UM On October 28, 2024, the University of Macau hosted a sharing session titled “Mathematical Classics and Knowledge Dissemination: The Value and Significance of the Incunabulum of Euclid’s Elements” in the lecture hall of the Research Building (N21). Firstly, Prof. Rui Martins, Vice Rector introduced how the 1491 edition of Euclid’s Elements acquired by on the University of Macau Library and became one of the most precious rare books. Then, Prof. Tang Tao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of Guangzhou Southern University, discussed the significance of collecting this book and the history of how the book Elements spread over China. Prof. José Francisco Rodrigues, academician of Academy of Sciences of Lisbon and professor of the University of Lisbon, gave detailed explanations and wonderful sharing on the historical background of the incunabulum and differences between the 1491 and the 1482 editions of the Elements.
