Hand-copied Collection of Zhu Xi’s Essays Year: 1875 -1900s Call Number: MAN-003 This book is believed to be the daily homework or review manuscript for students in the Qing Dynasty. It contains copies of relevant articles of Zhu Xi and the masters of NeoConfucianism, including the preface to the Zizhi Tongjian Gangmu, Zhu Xi’s reading method, study techniques, the epitaph of Mr. Mingdao and the eulogy of Mr. Lianxi. Each article has red pen circles and inscriptions. “Zhao Yongguang” is written on the cover, and he is believed to be the son of Zhao Jin from the Zhao family of Wangxia Village and a student of the Imperial Academy during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. The imperial examinations in the Ming and Qing dynasties regarded Zhu Xi’s NeoConfucianism as the orthodox school. The Four Books of the Qing Dynasty were mainly based on Zhu Xi’s collected annotations. The Yi Jing and Shu Jing, among the Five Classics, were also officially approved with Zhu Xi’s annotations.
