The original text of Ricci’s manuscript was in Italian. Later, Nicolas Trigault translated it into Latin on his way back to Europe to meet the Pope, and it was officially published in Europe in 1615. The book chronicles China’s geography, history, society, culture, politics, philosophy, and religion, and describes how Matteo Ricci and his fellow Jesuits (such as Michele Ruggieri) introduced Christianity to China. 81 15
