Noêl Golvers studied Classical philology at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. He obtained his PhD on Latin and Italic linguistics in 1984. His research thereafter has focused on the Jesuit mission in China in the 17th-early 18th century, especially on its cultural and scientific aspects, and the role of the Jesuits in the transmission of Science between Europe and China, on which he published extensively, for example, on Jesuit libraries in China {Libraries of Western Learningfor China, 3 vols., 2012-2015); on astronomy and mathematics (4 vols. on Ferdinand Verbiest and Antoine Thomas, 1993, 2003, 2009, 2017), medicine, botany, and pharmacology (1 vol. on Johann Schreck lerrentius, 2020).
