On 24 October 2023, an unveiling ceremony of the “National Intellectual Property Information Public Service Network Joint Service Center - Guangdong Science and Technology Library - University of Macau” was held at the University Gallery of the University of Macau. The Director of Guangdong Science and Technology Library (Institute of Information, Guangdong Academy of Sciences) Qiu Gang, and University Librarian of the University of Macau Wu Jianzhong, hosted the ceremony.

The center is jointly built by the Guangdong Science and Technology Library and the University of Macau Library. It is the first time that Guangdong Science and Technology Library has jointly built an intellectual property information public service platform with institutions in Hong Kong and Macao. It is also the first national intellectual property information service agency branch in Macau. The two parties will rely on the joint service center to give full play to their respective advantages and characteristics, focus on the scientific and technological development and industrial innovation needs of Guangdong and Macao. The center will also provide professional services such as intellectual property novelty search, intellectual property early warning monitoring, patent navigation analysis, and high-value patent cultivation, etc. for government departments, technology-based enterprises, high-level scientific research teams and the general public. It will better meet the needs of innovation and entrepreneurship in the two places and the people's needs for a better life, and provide a communication platform and intellectual support to support the development of science and technology and economy in Guangdong and Macao.

After the ceremony, the two parties held an academic exchange symposium and conducted in-depth communication on their respective development plans and cooperation content. Wu Jianzhong introduced the historical evolution, functional positioning and development strategy of the University of Macau Library. He stated that this ceremony represented the effective implementation of the strategic cooperation framework agreement signed by the two parties in April this year. He looked forward to strengthening the public service of intellectual property information in the future, by focusing on cooperation in the fields of decision-making consultation, resource sharing, talent exchange and other areas to make positive and beneficial attempts, and providing comprehensive think tank consulting services to the public and innovative entities.

Director Qiu Gang introduced the development history, business sectors and development plans of the Guangdong Science and Technology Library, hoping to strengthen complementary advantages, mutual benefit and win-win results, expand the areas of cooperation between the two parties, deepen scientific and technological innovation cooperation and exchanges between Guangdong and Macao, and empower the innovative development of the scientific and technological economic industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area with high-level services, high-standard protection and high-efficiency utilization of intellectual property rights.

Billy Leung, Assistant University Librarian of the University of Macau Library, reported on the current status, progress and prospects of cooperation between the two parties in terms of intellectual property public services, joint research projects, and talent exchanges. Wang Chunming, Director of the Information and Intellectual Property Research Center of Guangdong Science and Technology Library, introduced the progress of the soft science research project funded by the State Intellectual Property Office. After the discussion, delegations from the Guangdong Science and Technology Library visited the University of Macau Library, Rare Book Collection, University Gallery, Museum of Art, etc.

Deputy Director Zhu Lin of the Guangdong Science and Technology Library, Associate Research Librarian Zhang Lijia, Engineer Yu Yan, and Assistant Librarian Tang Zhengwu of the Information and Intellectual Property Research Center; Associate University Librarian Raymond Wong, Functional Head Priscilla Pun, Wilson Hoi and Henry Yang, Senior Library Officer Molly Lei, Library Officer Manson Ip, Senior Administrative Assistants Igor Ho, Kyros Lam and others attended the ceremony and exchange activities.
