On 16 January 2024, Li Junxiao, Deputy Secretary of the Hengqin Working Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, and Zhang Wenji, Deputy Director of the Administrative Affairs Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, led a delegation to visit the University of Macau Library. The UM Library’s Associate Librarian Raymond Wong, Assistant Librarian Billy Leung, Functional Heads Wilson Hoi and Henry Yang received the guests.
Deputy Secretary Li Junxiao introduced the reasons for the construction of the new exhibition hall in the Cooperation Zone and its curatorial plan. The exhibition, which entitles "Harmony between Hengqin and Macao", reviews the relationship and development process between Hengqin and Macao, which share the same roots and are closely related to each other from ancient times to the present. It will comprehensively display the achievements of Hengqin’s development and construction in the new era, vividly embodies the integration of Hengqin and Macao and the vision for a bright future of Macao’s economic diversification. The exhibition is planned to be open in September 2024, and exhibits are currently being collected from all walks of life.
Associate Librarian Raymond Wong showed and introduced to the guests the UM Library’s rich collection of materials on history, culture, and economy of Hengqin and Macao, as well as the written and video historical materials related to the construction of the University of Macau at Hengqin Campus. He also presented a batch of precious historical materials on the origin of Hengqin's development in the 1990s to the Administrative Affairs Bureau.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Macao’s handover and the 15th anniversary of the development and construction of Hengqin. It is also a critical year for the realization of the first phase of the national "The General Plan for Building a Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin". As a demonstration project of "one country, two systems", the new campus of the University of Macau on Hengqin Island is of great significance to the development of Hengqin. Both parties agreed to carry out in-depth cooperation and exchanges on the construction of the exhibition hall to better demonstrate the practice of "one country, two systems" in Macao and to contribute to celebration of the 25th anniversary of Macao’s handover.
