UM Library holds art exhibition for retired UM staff Mr. Lao Iong Chi (2025/01/06)

 

The University of Macau Library kicked off a painting exhibition for Mr. Lao Iong Chi at 11 a.m. on December 18 at Zone A on the second floor of the library. The event was attended by many guests, including Director of the Centre for Macau Studies Prof Agnes Lam, Librarian Dr. Wu Jianzhong, Assistant Librarian Mr. Billy Leung, Macau calligrapher and painter Mr. Chan Pui Tong and his wife, as well as some members of the UM Library management and Mr. Lao’s relatives and friends.

The eight works on display in this exhibition are all works that created under Mr. Lao's emotions based on his personal experiences and feelings. Therefore, the themes are wide-ranging. The exhibits include harvest fruits such as grapes and lychees, figurative flowers such as plum blossoms and peonies, the grand scenes of the landscape of the motherland, and the geographical scenes of Macao landscape. There are also paintings that tribute to medical staff due to the epidemic. It reflects all aspects of the painter's love for life.

 

Mr. Lao is a former staff of UM’s Facility Management and Maintenance office. He loves painting and has devoted himself to the pursuit of art to achieve today’s high level. As the cultural and educational centre of UM, the library displays Mr. Lao’s paintings, hoping to set an example for students to demonstate that everyone are able to become an artist.
