Library News — Library Week 2025 – Upcoming Events “Reading Pleasures at UM: A World of Books” (2025/04/17)

Dear All,

The University of Macau Library cordially invites you to illuminate the light of reading. Our Library Week series “Reading Pleasures at UM: A World of Books” is about to begin, featuring a diverse array of activities for your participation.

1. Library Booth for the World Book Day

Celebrate Reading in Style! Immerse yourself in a delightful afternoon of poetry and creativity. Recite beautiful verses, craft charming paper roses, and experience the magic of reading through engaging activities. Let the spirit of books fill your heart!

Time: April 23rd, 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM

Location: University of Macau Library (E2), Lobby

Details: Poems will be provided at the Booth for reading and sharing on your social media and you will receive a small gift (e.g., stationery) immediately; Participants can also create paper roses with materials and guidance provided by Library staff.

2. Celebrating Reading Excellence: The Reading Master Challenge Awards

Be part of the celebration as we recognize the top 10 readers from the 2024/2025 “Reading Master Challenge”! Come and witness the power of reading and share the joy with fellow book lovers.

Time: April 23rd, 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM

Location: University of Macau Library (E2), Lobby

3. Good Books Exchange @ UM Library

Exchange your beloved books and make new friends! Books will be evaluated and assigned points based on their value. Use your points slip to exchange for books of equivalent points. 

Time: April 10th to May 16th, 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM (Excluding Public Holidays)

Location: University of Macau Library (E2), Reference Desk

 4. Free Books for You

In celebration of World Book Day (April 23rd), all UM faculty, staff, and students will receive free books when borrowing books from the Library! There’s no limit to the number of books you can take, while supplies last. (Please bring your own reusable bag.)

Time: April 23rd, 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM

Location: University of Macau Library (E2), Circulation Counter

Note: The books are free duplicates.

5. Nicholas Iquan‘s Treasure Cave – Online Library Game

Search for hidden treasures in this online library game! Complete the game and redeem your score for a prize.

The URL will be announced later.

Time: April 22nd-25th, 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM

Background: Nicholas Iquan (Cheng Chih-lung) was a 17th-century pirate and military figure active in the South China Sea and the East China Sea. He is a Macao historical figure and the father of Koxinga, a Chinese national hero.

6. Intellectual Property Rights ExhibitionCo-organized by University of Macau Library and Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Library (Guangdong Provincial Institute of Scientific Information)

Dates: April 26, 2025 – May 26, 2025

Location: University of Macau Library (E2), G/F A Zone

Note: Co-organized by UM Library and the Guangdong Science and Technology Library.

7. Chinese Painting: Fan Painting Workshop

Location: Macau Cultural Centre (Indoor)

Time: April 26th, 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM

Limited Spots: 10 participants (Open to both UM and external readers)

Note: This activity is part of the “Reading Month in the City of Macao” program organized by the Macao Public Library.

8. Workshop: Paint Paperweight

Location: Macau Cultural Centre (Indoor)

Time: April 26th, 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM

Limited Spots: 10 participants (Open to both UM and external readers)
