2025 is the election year for the leadership of sections under the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). We are delighted to learn from the recently announced election results that four representatives from the University of Macau Library have been elected or re-elected to positions in IFLA’s sections, namely Professor (Helen) Hong Xu, University Librarian, Ms (Priscilla) Nga Ian Pun, Mr. (Stephen) Chong Meng Lei and Mr. (Wilson) Wai Tat Hoi. They serve as standing committee members of the “Library Buildings and Equipment Section,” “Environment, Sustainability and Libraries Section,” “Knowledge Management Section,” and “Management of Library Associations Section,” respectively, for the term until 2027 or 2029.
The elected members will fulfill their responsibilities within IFLA’s professional committees, actively engaging in global exchange and cooperation among libraries and information institutions, promoting the voice of Macau’s library community, enhancing the international standing and influence of Macau libraries, and contributing to the prosperity and sustainable development of global library services.
IFLA is the most authoritative non-governmental professional organization in the global library and information sector. Headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands, it is dedicated to fostering international exchange and cooperation in the library and information fields. IFLA comprises multiple professional sections, regional divisions, and advisory committees, with elections held every two years. Library professionals worldwide can participate in these elections to become IFLA volunteers, serving as standing committee members or committee members, contributing to IFLA’s operations, academic exchanges, and the advancement of the global library community.
