“Window of Shenzhen” launched at the University of Macau and the opening ceremony of “Exhibition of Award-winning Works of Shenzhen Writers” (2023/12/01)

On 28 November 2023, as one of the main activities of the 24th Shenzhen Reading Month, the "Window of Shenzhen" launched at the University of Macau and the opening ceremony of the "Exhibition of Award-winning Works of Shenzhen Writers" was successfully held at the University of Macau Library. Zhang Yan (Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of Shenzhen Library), Xiao Rongmei (Deputy Director of Shenzhen Library), Wu Jianzhong (University Librarian of the University of Macau), Raymond Wong (Associate University Librarian of the University of Macau), and Billy Leung (Assistant University Librarian of the University of Macau) attended the event.

 

At the ceremony, Wu Jianzhong said in his speech that Shenzhen is the forefront of the country's reform and opening up. Shenzhen Library is in a leading position in the national library industry in terms of career innovation and reading promotion. As an important part of the Chinese Culture Corner of UM Library, the "Window of Shenzhen" will allow Macao readers gain an in-depth understanding of the high-quality development of Shenzhen's economy and culture, and promote exchanges and cooperation between the two libraries.

 

Leaders of Shenzhen attach great importance to cultural exchanges between Shenzhen and Macao. When Zhang Ling, member of the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee and Minister of the Propaganda Department, visited the University of Macau Library, she paid great attention to the construction of the "Window of Shenzhen" area and learned all the details of the preparations and establishment of the area. Director Zhang Yan said in his speech that Shenzhen and Macao are both located in the Lingnan region. With the advantages of close location, people and culture connectivity, the two places have a long history of cultural exchanges. The cooperation between the libraries of the two places are even closer. For example, the "Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao 4.23 Half-hour Reading" event has been held for many years, and the "Learning about Macao through Documents" series of exhibitions and activities, etc. The establishment of the first "Window of Shenzhen" will promote the rich and colorful Shenzhen local documents to the outside world and let more Macao people understand Shenzhen. The cooperation between the two places will also be enhanced and the results will be more fruitful. Subsequently, Zhang Yan presented the "Window of Shenzhen" plaque and Shenzhen local documents to Wu Jianzhong, and together with the guests, they cut the ribbon for the launching of "Window of Shenzhen" and the opening of the "Exhibition of Award-winning Works of Shenzhen Writers".
