For a summary of Prof. Lancaster’s talk, please see the following:

"The growth of available digital data has challenged scholars in Humanities as well as all other fields of research. Professor Lancaster will report on a project at the University of California, Berkeley and City University of Hong Kong funded in part by the National Science Foundation of the U.S. and the Luce Foundation to seek new ways of dealing with large amounts of digital data. The approach is based on moving away from natural language search and retrieval to a process of converting data into abstract images. Working with images, scholars can see patterns of occurrence of target works over thousands of pages quickly. This non-reading approach allows for effective use of algorithms for analysis. The complex display of these images can be viewed within 3-D and immersive environments".

ALL ARE WELCOME!
