Library Training of "Turnitin"--A Plagiarism Detection System (2009/05/06)

Dear faculty members,

We are pleased to announce that the Library has, as in some other reputable academic libraries, subscribed to Turnitin.

Turnitin is a plagiarism prevention tool, which is designed to help faculty members to easily evaluate the originality of student’s work by comparing their electronic documents to online sources and Turnitin-owned databases, including many popular periodicals, publications, and academic journals. Papers can now be accepted for checking in 30 different languages including Chinese (traditional and simplified), English and Portuguese.

In order to help you understand what Turnitin is and how it can assist you to check for plagiarism, the Library has arranged with the vendor to give a demonstration (two separate sessions) on the functionality of Turnitin. The training schedule is listed as follows:

Date: 15th May 2009 (Friday)
Venue: Bibliographic Instruction Room (RC03) of the Library
Trainer: Ms. Robyne Lovelock, Managing Director, ALDIS Associates Pty. Ltd. Australia.


Session I: 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Session II: 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

All teaching staff are entitled to request a Turnitin account for use at its website: 
http://www.turnitin.com/static/index.html. Please use your UM email address to send the following data to lib_ref@umac.mo for us to set up your Turnitin account.
