Databases On Trial (2006/10/03)

Dear All,

In order to support faculty members and students in their teaching, learning and research, the Library has already acquired a substantial number of electronic databases. To further develop along this line, the Library constantly liaises with database vendors to have their new products tried out by our users before we decide to purchase them or not. The following products are the latest ones and we hope that they will meet the initial demands from the newly-established History Program in FSH.

(1) World History Collection -- It offers a global look at history with content from Africa, Asia, North and South America, Europe and the Middle East. World History Collection contains cover-to-cover full text for nearly 150 titles, including many peer-reviewed journals. Full text dates as far back as 1964. From now on to 31st October 2006, you can access it at

(2) History Reference Center -- It offers full text from more than 1,000 reference books, encyclopedias and nonfiction books, cover to cover full text for 60 history magazines, 58,000 historical documents, 43,000 biographies of historical figures, more than 12,000 historical photos and maps, and more than 80 hours of historical video. Please try it out at until 31st October 2006.

You are cordially invited to try out these products via the campus network. Please also use the links provided in "Trial Databases" at our web site or directly access their websites for your search.

Please kindly give us your comments on these online databases on trial at
