Dr. Wu Jianzhong participated in the IFLA Webinar on interviews with Library Managers around the World (2022/03/01)

 

On 24 February 2022, IFLA's Management and Marketing Section (M&M) held a Webinar interviewing library managers from around the world. They were Dr. Phineas Phaladi, Library Director, Durban University of Technology (DUT), South Africa; Dr. Jianzhong Wu , Director of University of Macau Library, Macao, China; Gonzalo Oyarzún, Chilean librarian, former director of the Santiago Public Library (Also oversaw the National System of Public Libraries in Chile; Ezio Neyra, Writer and former director of National Library of Peru (2020-2021); Leslie Weir, Librarian and Archivist of Canada; Anya Feltreuter, Library Director of Mjolby Public Library, Sweden; Mrs. Lee Cheng Ean, Library Director of the National Library of Singapore and Andrew Ojulong, University Librarian, Lira University in Uganda.
Each interview was focused around four themes: unique challenges, recommended skills for emerging managers, skills they are developing, and motivations. The moderators were Stephen Woods of Penn State Libraries and Romeo Muvhulawa Matumba of Durban University of Technology. While introducing the transformation practice of the UM library, Dr. Wu Jianzhong pointed out the importance of innovation, motivation, flexibility and organizational culture in the development of the institution.
