East Meets West: An Exhibition Commemorating the 200th Anniversary of Robert Morrison's "A Dictionary of the Chinese Language" (2015/12/03)

Dear All,

To commemorate the 200th anniversary of Robert Morrison’s “A Dictionary of the Chinese Language”, the first Chinese-English dictionary in the world, the University Library and Chao Kuang Piu College will co-organize an exhibition entitled “East Meets West: An Exhibition Commemorating the 200th Anniversary of Robert Morrison’s ‘A Dictionary of the Chinese Language’ ”. An opening ceremony will be held at the Library’s 2/F Sky Garden on 10th December 2015, 4:00 pm.

This exhibition will display three volumes of the first edition of “A Dictionary of the Chinese Language”, which has been regarded as a landmark of the cultural exchange between China and the West.  Also on display are 40 boards of rare photos of Morrison’s life in China, provided by the Christian Sheun Tao Church in Macau. Through these display boards visitors can be further informed about Morrison’s contribution to the cultural exchange between China and the West.

The exhibition will open to the public until 31st January 2016 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, and seminars on Robert Morrison and the Dictionary will also be organized later.
